2022 Holiday Season Comes to a Close

We have reached the end of the 2022 holiday season and as I write tonight the New Years Eve Countdown show is running. At midnight there will be a countdown and a welcome to 2023 with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne. THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HAVE SUPPORTED THE SHOW AND SHARED YOUR KIND WORDS WITH ME.

After 5 weeks of enduring the weather and one incredibly strong rain/wind storm the components (“props”) for the show didn’t fare too bad. I only had a couple of sections of bad bulbs, a few fried fuses, a couple of pushbuttons for the hillside music that will need to be replaced, and some burned bulbs and perhaps logic boards on the moving head spotlights. That may sound like a lot but considering we run the show 6+ hours every day for 5 weeks straight in every type of weather imaginable I’m happy with the results.

For those that have been asking, we have already started planning for the 2023 season. I am hopeful that we may be able to do a Patriotic Show during Fourth of July week. We are going to leave some props in place from the 2022 Christmas show as we plan for this, but most everything on the hillside will be removed. We are planning on adding a number of additional props for 2023 and we are also anticipating a new layout on the hillside that will optimize the viewing of the singing faces and the large tree and matrix. We’ve had some discussion about adding a lighthouse (similar to the large tree only more straight up and down) on the south side, some angel wings (for selfies) down at the street level, a killer whale or two and perhaps some additional patriotic type elements. As I’ve mentioned to many of you that I met this year, the entire show runs from a couple of small computers, a couple of computer light controllers and a tiny radio station all located in a box about the size of a cooler next to one of the porches at Trollers. Next year we will put this equipment on display for the curious. I will be rebuilding the “cooler” into a waterproof cabinet with a see through cover. Of course we will be adding some new songs to the library of nearly 45 songs. I’ve had a request for something Dolly Parton… so I’m going to start working on that. As for Halloween… I don’t see that happening any time soon. But never say never.

Again, THANK YOU ALL! We look forward to seeing you all again down on the “hillside”
